General Information

The non-profit organization Giving Spirit presents its 2nd Annual charity bike ride AFRIBIKE on Saturday, September 12th, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. The event is sponsored by Taste Pizzabar, the trendy new urban pizza bistro in Downtown Detroit, The Hub, JNHK Graphic Design, and FM Webmasters.

Metro Detroiters will have a chance to take advantage of the warm weather as they pedal throughout downtown Detroit in the name of charity. The trek will explore areas such as  Eastern Market, a new Detroit bike path, and a few unexpected gems within the city.

The AFRIBIKE tour will start and end at Taste Pizzabar located at 1415 Times Square. The ride is a family event and runs approximately 8-10 miles.

Ride Cost

Riders can participate in the tour for a $10 donation to Giving Spirit.

Bike Rental for AFRIBIKE

AFRIBIKE sponsor The Hub bike shop located at 3611 Cass near Martin Luther King Blvd will be providing bike rentals the morning of the event for a special discounted price only for Afribike riders of $10.

Registration

Prospective riders can register in 2 ways:

• On-site the day of the event
• Via this website by following the registration link and filling out the required information

Safety (wear a helmet!)

AFRIBIKE will be led by experienced riders and cyclists are expected to obey all traffic laws. Like motorists, you can be ticketed if you fail to do so. Move into single file when motorists or other riders approach from the rear. Signal all your intentions to motorists and the cyclists near you! If you have to stop, move yourself and your bike completely off the pavement. Helmets are required.

Preparation

AFRIBIKE cyclists can be proactive by doing a quick check of their bikes before the ride to ensure their equipment is road ready. Our sponsor The Hub will also be on-site prior to the ride for additional maintenance and diagnostic support, and to answer questions about safety, etc. You must wear a helmet.

Tour Support

In addition to experienced cyclists who will be leading our ride, AFRIBIKE sponsor The Hub will be on call throughout the ride journey. Their help will be available to all riders with serious repair problems.

Check-in Time & Location

Times Square 9:30 – 10:00 am.

Please carry emergency contact info on your person while riding.

Refreshments

AFRIBIKE sponsor Taste Pizzabar will be providing bottled water, and healthy snacks for all riders.
